〜からある/からの

N1

as much as, a good (X) or more (stressing a large amount)

Formation: Number + counter + からある + N (weight, length, size, distance); Number + counter + からする + N (price); Number + counter + からの + N (people, amounts)

Placed after a number, this pattern stresses that the amount is large, at least that much and possibly more, and the speaker is impressed or surprised by it. The usual choice is からある for weight, length, size and distance, からする for prices, and からの for numbers of people or things, though からの can be used more widely. It almost always modifies a following noun (20キロからある荷物) and goes with rough, round figures, not exact counts. It is mostly written or narrative and is not used for small amounts. Compared with 〜に及ぶ, which neutrally reports that a total reaches a figure, からある/からの carries the speaker's sense of 'that much!'. Plain も (20キロもある) is the everyday equivalent.

Variants: 〜からする、〜からの
