〜ものがある
N2there is something (truly X) about it; it is quite X
Formation: V-dictionary / V-ない / i-adj + ものがある; na-adj + な + ものがある
Expresses the speaker's strong impression that something has a certain quality, without pinning it down precisely. It is fairly formal and typical of reviews, commentary and reflective writing about works, performances, people's abilities or situations; with verbs it mostly appears with verbs of emotion, perception or evaluation, such as 胸に迫る, 心を打つ, 目を見張る and 考えさせられる. With adjectives it softens a judgment: 厳しいものがある means 'it is quite tough'. Unlike 〜ものだ, which states a general truth or exclamation, ものがある reports a felt quality in one particular thing. A related but separate construction is 〜ものを感じる, as in 胸に迫るものを感じた, where もの is simply the object of 感じる.
Variants: ものがあった
