〜ながらにして

N1

while staying in a state; (from birth), without even moving

Formation: limited V-ます stem (居る→い, 生まれる→生まれ) + ながらにして; limited N (涙) + ながらに(して); 生まれながらの + N

〜ながらにして means that something happens while a state stays the same, or that a quality has been there since a state began. 家にいながらにして means 'without even leaving home', and 生まれながらにして means 'from birth, by nature'. It is formal and mostly written, common in essays, advertising copy and statements of principle, and it occurs only in a few fixed combinations, mainly いながらにして, 生まれながらにして and 涙ながらに. Do not confuse it with 〜ながら(も) ('although, despite'), which is concessive and works with many verbs and adjectives, or with plain 〜ながら for two simultaneous actions. 〜ながらにして has no concessive meaning; it stresses that the original state stays unchanged.

Variants: 〜ながらに、生まれながらの、涙ながらに
