〜に至るまで

N1

(everything) down to, even, all the way to

Formation: N + に至るまで; often N1 + から + N2 + に至るまで

〜に至るまで marks the far end of a range and stresses that the range is thorough. The point is that even the smallest, most distant or least expected item is included. It is very often paired with から (AからBに至るまで) and followed by words like すべて, 誰もが or 幅広く. The register is formal, but it is also used in careful speech. Compare plain まで, which can simply mark a limit, and 〜をはじめ, which singles out the most typical item at the start of a list. に至るまで instead emphasizes how far down the list reaches. It is also different from 〜に至っては, which picks out one extreme case for comment.

Variants: から〜に至るまで
