〜に限らず

N2

not only (X), not limited to (X); (others) as well

Formation: N + に限らず; N + だけに限らず; predicate form: N + に限らない

This pattern says something applies not just to X but to a wider group, with X as the obvious or typical example. The main clause often contains も, 誰でも, どこでも or 幅広く. It is neutral to formal and used in both speech and writing. Compare 〜ばかりか and 〜のみならず, which add one specific, often more surprising, item (not only X but even Y), while に限らず widens to a general category. Compare 〜を問わず, which takes a whole range of values (年齢, 性別) rather than one example. Don't confuse it with 〜に限る (nothing beats) or 〜に限って (of all people, only X).

Variants: だけに限らず、に限らない
