〜に伴って/に伴い

N2

along with, as (one change brings another); due to

Formation: N + に伴って/に伴い; V-dictionary (often こと) + に伴って; N + に伴う + N

〜に伴って has two uses. It can say that as X changes, Y changes with it, or that an event X brings Y along as a consequence (closures due to construction, procedures following a move). It is formal and typical of news reports, official notices and academic writing. It usually describes large-scale social, economic or natural developments rather than personal matters. Compare 〜につれて, which describes gradual, proportional change and needs a change on both sides. 〜に伴って can also follow a one-off event such as 移転 or 工事. Compare also 〜とともに, which is broader and can also mean 'together with a person', and 〜に従って, which can also mean 'in accordance with'.

Variants: に伴い、に伴う、に伴った
