〜につき

N2

per; owing to (formal notices); concerning

Formation: N + につき (reason: often N + 中 + につき, e.g. 工事中につき); number / unit + につき (per)

〜につき is a formal pattern with three uses. With a unit or quantity it means 'per' (一人につき二枚まで). After a noun describing a situation it gives the reason, as on signs and official notices: 準備中につき, 雨天につき. In business or official writing it can also mean 'concerning', a stiffer form of について (本件につき). The reason use is typical of notices, announcements and letters, and it attaches almost only to nouns. In ordinary speech the same idea would be のため or だから. Compare 〜によって/により, a broader formal 'due to' found in news reports; 〜につき in its reason sense sounds like a posted notice explaining a temporary state of affairs.

Variants: につきまして (polite 'concerning')
