〜末(に)
N2after (a long or difficult process), finally
Formation: V-た + 末(に); N + の + 末(に); noun-modifying: 〜末の + N
Describes a result reached in the end after a long struggle, much thought or a lot of effort. It is somewhat formal and common in writing and news, often with verbs such as 悩む, 迷う and 考える or nouns such as 苦労, 議論 and 激戦. The result can be good, bad or neutral, and is often a decision. Compare 〜挙げ句(に), which usually leads to a bad or disappointing result and often carries frustration; 末に is more neutral.
Variants: 〜末、〜末に、〜の末、〜末の + N
