〜と相まって

N1

combined with, together with (factors reinforcing each other)

Formation: N1 + と相まって; N1とN2が相まって; N + も相まって

Says that two factors act together and produce a combined, usually stronger, effect, which the main clause describes. The effect can be good or bad. It is formal and written, typical of news reports, reviews and analytical prose. The 〜も相まって form adds one more contributing factor to things already mentioned ("helped also by X"). Unlike 〜に加えて, which simply lists one thing on top of another, 〜と相まって stresses that the factors interact to bring about a result. It also differs from 〜とともに, which marks accompaniment or simultaneous change.

Variants: 〜が相まって、〜も相まって
