〜とあって

N1

because (of a special circumstance), as might be expected given X

Formation: N + とあって; plain form (な-adj and N usually without だ) + とあって

Gives a special, noteworthy circumstance as the reason, and the main clause describes the natural result that was observed, e.g. crowds, excitement or congestion. It is formal and objective, very typical of news reports. It describes situations and other people, not the speaker's own actions, and the main clause cannot be a request, an order or the speaker's intention. Compare 〜とあれば, which is a hypothetical condition, and 〜だけあって, which praises something for living up to its reputation. 〜とあっては usually leads to a forced or reluctant consequence ("if it has come to that, then…").

Variants: 〜とあっては、〜とあってか
