〜というわけだ

N2

that is why; which means, so (it follows that)

Formation: Plain form + というわけだ; N / な-adj + (だ) + というわけだ

The speaker presents a result as following naturally from the facts just given, or realises the reason for something (so that's why…). It often closes an explanation, and というわけで (so, and so) begins the next step. It is used in both speech and writing, and です-form is common in presentations. 〜ということだ simply restates what something means, while 〜というわけだ stresses cause and effect or reasoning. 〜次第です is a more formal way of explaining how something came about. Plain 〜わけだ is close in meaning, and という adds a summing-up feel.

Variants: というわけです、というわけで、わけだ
