〜とかで

N2

because, apparently; something about (vague hearsay reason)

Formation: Plain form + とかで; N / な-adj + だ + とかで

This pattern gives a reason the speaker heard from someone else and only half remembers or can't vouch for, like saying 'something about…' in English. It is conversational and is mostly used to explain why someone else did something. It is not used for your own reasons. 〜ということだ and the formal 〜とのことで pass on information clearly and precisely, while とかで stays deliberately vague. 〜ものだから excuses your own behaviour, and 〜せいか is the speaker's own guess about a cause.

Variants: とかいうことで、とかいう話で
