〜を中心に

N2

centering on, focusing on, mainly in or among

Formation: N + を中心に(して)/を中心として; N + を中心とする/を中心とした + N

Marks X as the center of an activity, a spread or a group: physically (rain mainly in Kyushu), as the main topic (discussion focused on X), or as the core members (a group led by young people). It is neutral but very common in news reports and formal writing, especially weather and disaster reports. Before a noun it becomes を中心とした or を中心とする. Compare 〜をはじめ, which names X as the leading example in a list, and 〜をもとに, which means using X as a basis or source material, not as the center.

Variants: 〜を中心にして、〜を中心として、〜を中心とする、〜を中心とした
